An award-winning forest
The flowering forest of Paran\u00e1 do Aria\u00fa is a true natural wonder. Every year, from the end of August to mid-September, at the beginning of spring in the southern hemisphere, the taxizeiros (Triplares surinamensis) begin to bloom, creating a breathtaking scenario, due to its dense and intense flowering. These igap\u00f3 trees (forests with seasonal flooding) intensively colonized the banks of the Paran\u00e1 (channel that allows transit from one river to another). The name “taxizeiro” is derived from the large number of taxi or tachi ants that call home the trunks and peduncles of these flowers. These ants, also known as “formigas-de-novato\u201c(newbie ants) or \u201dnovato\u201d (newbie), belong to the genus Pseudomyrna and are mercilessly annoying, sneaking under clothes and even screwing the unfortunate.
As flowering reaches its peak, the forest transforms into a sea of vibrant colors, attracting tours of tourists to witness this annual spectacle. The beauty of this natural event led me to participate in the 11th Ita\u00fa-BBA National Contest in the Flowered Forest category. That purpose kept me in the area for 15 days looking for frames and special lighting, climbing the trees and literally diving into that sea of flowers. The pleasure provided by this blossoming journey was as rewarding as the first prize in the contest I won for the cover photo of this article. The enchantment of this forest is truly awe-inspiring and is a testament to the incredible and astonishing diversity of nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
