A thousand eyes in the forest
It’s 6:33 in the morning, the sun’s rays have already invaded the Abra144 valley with all the heat of the month of August. That’s when the forest is scorching. The rare rains of this season cannot keep the humidity on the understory, and whoever steps on the dry leaves can hardly maintain the silence and discretion that every jungle hiker desires. Especially for those like me who are “foreigners,” they are quickly perceived by others who are standing still, just listening. I am preparing to enter that world that never ceases to fascinate me, and I know that, even more so in this season, I will hear the sound, smell the perfumes, and feel the presence of a thousand eyes watching me. However, my footsteps will conspire no matter how much I try to silence them.

Still Princess
Tree climbing at Abra144 has attracted hundreds of tourists from all over the world to experience this little-known activity. As a climbing facilitator, I established a maximum limit of 6 people that I could lead into the treetops, with an assistant operating on the ground. Europeans, North Americans, Arabs, Jews, Russians, Indians, Japanese, Chinese… Almost all of them were friends, families, couples, or even lone adventurers who embarked on the feat with joy and confidence. The average number of people per operation always remained between 2-3, with a duration of 4-5 hours, sometimes waiting until nightfall. This always allowed for a personalized experience with all its enchantment… and an indelible mark on the consciousness of the daring tourist.
I don’t talk about this subject as a nostalgic memory, not at all. My clear purpose is to inspire the training of professionals and the promotion of related activities. The forest demands beneficial human presence. In an Amazon rainforest revered as it deserves for its immeasurable service to humanity, tree climbers have the noble mission of bringing to visitors the practical and unparalleled feeling of what this ecosystem represents.
