The riverine landscape
On the edge of Lake Piranha, the river dweller collects his fishing netA nylon net that can be made by riverside dwellers and is used for fishing. The net is crossed over a pool of water or a river and the fish that hit it becomes entangled. More in a breathtaking landscape. Breathtaking for whom? For the photographer, I can say for sure. For the viewer of the image, it is desirable. For the river dweller… if I asked him, he might answer, “in the struggle of everyday life, to earn bread.”
This small scenario raises some interesting philosophical questions. Firstly, I can consider the idea of perspective. Each person, whether the river dweller, the photographer, or the viewer of the image, has a different perspective of the scene in question. Each of them interprets the landscape according to their own experiences and experiences that shape their way of seeing the world. This leads me to question whether there is an absolute truth about the beauty of the landscape or whether it is subjective, depending on each individual’s perspective.
For the river dweller, the landscape may be something secondary in relation to his daily struggle for survival. He sees the beauty of Lake Piranha through the lens of hard work, and perhaps the landscape does not have the same value that it has for the photographer or the viewer. However, even so, I can distinguish between the hard work in a canoeThe canoe is a small boat, narrow and light, and daringly close to the waterline. With both sharp ends, it is operated by a wooden oar, but in the absence of an oar, the riverine can uses any piece of wood or even a branch. It is considered the most used means of transport by riverside and indigenous people in the rivers of the Amazon. More on Lake Piranha and the hard work of a suburb in a large city. Despite his hard work, the river dweller has a serene demeanor and a ready smile. So, can I say that the landscape also affects the river dweller?

The perfect guide
In the vicinity of the floating village of Cacau Pereira, on the Rio Negro, thickets of grass invade the banks and lakes, blocking the navigation of the waterways. Nevertheless, the riverine manages to make his way through the “tapagem”, large areas of grass that accumulate and hinder circulation. The riverine navigates with skill, knowing all the terrestrial and aquatic contours very well, and manages to overcome the natural obstacles that present themselves in his path. His ability is built day after day as he travels daily along the same waterways, preventing the grass from becoming entangled and resistant to river traffic. Therefore, when a newcomer like myself arrives in the area, the support of a local “ribeirinho” is essential to visit the region without major disruptions.
