Fresh fruit and fish
On the right bank of the Amazon River, from afar, the riverside canoes showed their great photographic potential. Everything was getting ready for my delight and the culmination of the picture. My camera’s film avidly fed on the silhouettes highlighted in the landscape. The light, the landscape and the riverine people were balancing themselves as the boat approached. Even greater would be the surprise to understand that the riverines were waiting for us, that they had fresh fruit and fish and that they would give a great relief from the monotonous diet of rice and beans that dominated that long expedition.
In that analog era, it was imperative to maintain a balance between the eye and the finger, as the finger did not want to stop, and the eye had to have the good sense to choose useful frames, and at the same time, be aware of the relentless decrease of the 36 poses. On a one-week expedition I took 30 films, for a total of 1080 diapositives. This represents an average of 154 doses per day. What a shame! Today, in the digital age, I easily shoot over 1000 frames in a single day, sometimes on a single subject and on a single memory card. Now there is a pleasurable and parsimonious fashion, a retro sentimentality of photographic film that has its value for those who value it. From my point of view, I am happy with digital abundance.

More, the riverine always paddle along the bow, as it is there that they achieve more efficient manoeuvrability. On a day like this, when gold appears on the surface of the water, will the riverine recognize the value of their patrimony? A freedom backed by gold never loses its value. There are also freedoms based on stock exchanges, on unbacked, illusory and extremely volatile currencies. These are overlooked stock exchanges in these remote lakes, but threatening…
