In an ocean of trees
Now we are right in the middle of the Tapajós National Forest. Huge waves of green stretch out into the horizon, and massive amounts of vapor rise into the sky. These are the “flying rivers,” a mass of water larger than the Amazon River itself that covers the entire Amazon and flows towards the South, keeping the entire country in a planetary privilege. If compared to lands at the same latitude, the South of Brazil should be a desert like Australia, Africa, and the Atacama on the other side of the Andes. However, in the South of Brazil, it rains because of the flying rivers from the Amazon. Each large tree in the Amazon rainforest can evaporate up to 1,000 liters (264 gallons) of water per day from its leaves. This planetary privilege of Brazil must be well-studied and communicated clearly to all Brazilians because there are already signs that this privilege is turning to smoke along with the trees of the Amazon. For more details on the flying rivers, look for “The Climate Future of the Amazon” by Antonio Donato Nobre.

The pleasure of flying
I cannot describe the pleasure of flying over the forest. A feeling of euphoria invades my soul. This immense forest is the FLONA (Tapajós National Forest). My ultralight pilot faithfully followed my wishes for four hours, always looking for the best angle, the ideal light. I think I would do this every day, going back over this immense forest, observing its details, and always seeing something new, who knows, during so many visits, something really unexpected might come up. How many centuries-old mysteries must be hidden under the lush cloak?

I was sitting on the left side and I was seeing myself in the mirror of the floating wing, I also saw the Tapajós river on the horizon and, at that time, I already had many images of the forest, which I was leaving to enter the river landscapes, where the water element seeks a balance with the earth element. The human presence also returned in the landscape, which throughout the journey inside the Tapajós National Forest did not shown the slightest trace.
