Aphrodisiac perfume
This orchid (Catasetum barbatum) it is unique in having male, female, and hermaphroditic flowers, pollinated by male Euglossine bees.
Euglossini are known as the “orchid bees” because the males of this tribe have a close relationship with the flowers of a large number of species of Orchidaceae, being exclusive pollinators of some species of the group. Males visit orchid flowers to collect aromatic compounds, especially terpenes and sesquiterpenes that are secreted by specialized regions of the flower’s lip. It is still unclear about the function of these compounds, but the most accepted hypotheses attribute a sexual function to such substances after their “metabolization” and may act, for example, in the mating process, as a factor of specific recognition and/or sexual selection. (Wikipedia)
In a nutshell, the male perfumes himself to conquer the female.
