Ships carrying mountains
Children play carefree by the Amazon River waterfront in Macapá. Ships on the horizon have arrived from afar to load the minerals extracted from the region, they carry entire mountains, the mountains that will be missing for those children, yes, they are taking the children’s mountains (as Airton Krenak would say)… children cannot imagine that someone would take their mountains… they wouldn’t be children anymore. The river, the wise Amazon, knows everything.

Harvest Time
During acai season, the caboclo doesn’t let go of the acai bunch he has been following throughout the maturation period. The forest is his pantry where food is stored. Like a huge supermarket, there are shelves and drawers constantly stocked by a caring mother, who provides and ensures each food arrives in its season. The caboclo knows where and when the delivery happens.

Manatee baby
We are at INPA, the National Institute for Research in the Amazon, biologist Fernando Rosa is taking care of a baby manatee (Trichechus ininguis). The cub was rescued in an illegal fishery. The child is the son of an INPA technician and it is commendable that a great scientific institution opens its doors to those who represent the very future of this institution. At INPA there is the Bosque da Ciência, which receives numerous visits from families.

Attentive observer
Manatee (Trichechus ininguis) breeding tanks at INPA – National Institute for Research in the Amazon), Department of Aquatic Mammals.
Every week the tank is emptied to clean the water and check the health of the animals. There is an attentive observer at the top of the photo. That’s right, there’s our little hero, sitting on the wall of the tank without missing a single move from the researchers.

Golden Yellow
The fishing was good! The cheerful riverside girl at Lake Janauacá, on the right bank of the Solimões River, is taking the fish out of the net. In this shot, I used a foldable cloth reflector. The harsh midday shadows kept the girl’s face in the shade, but the reflector did its job and illuminated her with a pleasant golden-yellow tone.
